The new Volvo EX30: the electric SUV with minimalist design and high performance

Volvo has launched its new electric SUV, the Swedish manufacturer's smallest called EX30, which can be ordered now in Europe at a starting price of 36,000 euros.

Geely's SEA platform, shared with Smart #1 and Polestar 4, is the basis for the new Volvo EX30, which is available in three variants: with a 272 hp rear-mounted single motor and 51 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, a single motor with 69 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery, and a 428 hp all-wheel-drive twin motor, again with 69 kWh NMC battery. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, while the claimed range for the three versions is 344, 480 and 460 km respectively.

Cars equipped with the NMC battery accept a charging power of up to 153 kW, ensuring a 'partial fill' from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes, while those with the LFP battery stop at a charging power of 134 kW.

Interior
The dashboard of the Volvo EX30 is characterised by the almost total absence of physical buttons, with the large 12.3" touch screen located in the centre, based on the Google Automotive multimedia system and equipped with 5G connectivity as well as wireless connectivity for the Apple Car Play and Android Auto protocols. The interior is made from recycled and organically sourced materials and fabrics. Active and passive safety has been very important in the design of the Volvo EX30, which features many driver assistance devices, including a safety system that helps prevent accidents caused by carelessly opening the door in the presence of an oncoming bicycle, moped or pedestrian.
