Revolution coming from Caterham. An electric sports car is on the horizon, combining brand tradition and innovation.
This concept, which anticipates the launch of a coupé planned between 2025 and 2026, makes its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The result of Anthony Jannarelly's design and the collaboration of Italdesign, this sports car offers the lightness typical of Caterhams, while maintaining the fun of driving.
With a carbon-fibre and aluminium chassis to keep weight down, and a minimalist cabin, there is no shortage of exciting performance: 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and a range of 400 km.
Caterham Project V Concept is an electric sports car concept that made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and previews the contents of a coupe that could arrive in late 2025 or early 2026. The concept was designed by Caterham's chief designer, Anthony Jannarelly, and features a completely new design language for the brand.
Italdesign also collaborated on the project and built the car in its factories in Italy. Even though this car is profoundly different from the Seven we know so well, Caterham still wanted to offer all the features it is used to on its models: simplicity and lightness, all to make a car that is fun to drive.
The carmaker says that thanks to the use of a carbon-fibre and aluminium chassis, the aim is to keep weight down to 1190 kg in the 2+1 configuration. In this regard, the manufacturer points out that Project V features a 2+1 seating configuration (two at the front and one at the rear) to facilitate entry and exit and improve rear passenger comfort.
However, the future standard version will also be available in a 2+2 configuration (two seats in the front and two in the back). The sports car is 4.25 metres long, 1.89 metres wide and 1.22 metres high with a wheelbase of 2.58 metres. And speaking of the cabin, the interior is minimalist. We find, however, digital instrumentation with circular elements and a central display of the infotainment system
Caterham also provided several details on the powertrain. The concept has a single 200 kW (272 hp) electric motor on the rear axle. The sports car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h. The engine is powered by a 55 kWh battery with an advanced thermal management system. Caterham speaks of an estimated range of 400 km according to the WLTP cycle. On the recharging front, filling up with DC energy from a 150 kW charging station will enable a 20 to 80 per cent charge in 15 minutes. Drivers can choose between Normal, Sport and Sprint driving modes.
