Who sold the most cars in the world in 2022: Toyota wins the challenge with Volkswagen

For the third year in a row, Toyota is the world's leading manufacturer. The Japanese automaker sold 10.5 million vehicles, keeping behind, once again, the Volkswagen Group. Toyota placed precisely 10.483 million vehicles on global markets with a decrease of just 0.1 percent compared to 2021, despite the problems the automotive supply chain has experienced due to the coronavirus pandemic and semiconductor shortages.

The Volkswagen Group sold 8.26 million vehicles in 2022, 7 percent less than in 2021. This percentage in the negative corresponds to a loss of more than 600,000 cars, driven largely by a sharp contraction in Central and Eastern European markets (-32.9 percent) while in Western Europe the decline stopped at 5.2 percent.
